SUMMARY (8pts)
1. In the UK, a family whose women had breast cancer underwent a trial to change that with a scientific process called PGD.
2.The revolutionary treatment allows for screening and removal of the defective gene from embryos. 3. Doctors explain it is not a cancer cure and does not suit every couple.
4. Some Couples don't do well with IVF
5. A minority of couples actually have the defective gene, so it's not cost effective to do the tests for all.
6.  Moreover they are cautious about side effects.
7. It could encourage misuse of genetic testing & designer babies.

OPINION (PEEL, 80w): In my opinion the PGD treatment allows us to determine the genes of our children to give them a brighter future. Without the once inheritable diseases like Muscular Dystrophy – which Stephen Hawking suffered from - mankind can then live in an age of better health. This benefit will reduce tremendous health costs and allow the money saved to be channelled to other needs. Without debilitating diseases, there will be less suffering within families. Children who have been set free from the legacy of a fatal illness will be able to live a full life and contribute significantly to society. All in all, our children will have better potential.

  1. Impact on celebrities on kids

    Summary
A 2006 study by USA Weekend found that half of teens agree that peers are more likely to smoke or drink because they see celebrities do it. Over three-quarters of teens think that their peers are likely to diet after a star loses weight, and some 60 percent say peers want to copy a celebrity’s tattoos and piercings.Pop culture does more than glamorize damaging behaviors like drinking and smoking for kids and young adults — it can also distort their worldview

    Opinion
I agree with the University of Calgary. Students as young as 5 years old and young adults nowadays are influenced by media and celebrities. There is also a change in children's charcters and looks to be more like celebrities. These children have too much of negative influences at such a young age. Miley Cyrus used to be a good role model to young kids in the television showed 'Hannah Montana' , however now she is a bad influence ..most parents are worried for their kids as they grow too fast following celebrities footsteps without parential guidance. Therefore, media is a bad influence.
